PostSubject: Still Hungry!   Wed May 30, 2007 3:01 am

My son will be 12 weeks old on Saturday and i was thinking about starting him on some baby rice? He is currently on 6oz bottles every 3 - 3 1/2 hours and that is with SMA White, he has always been a hungry baby and quite often screams after his bottle for more. I have spoken to the health visitor and she said that every 3 - 3 1/2 hours is fine but i was thinking if i gave him some baby rice just once a day, maybe before he gets put to bed he may go a little longer?! Every 3 hours is very tireing and it seems like i am constantly feeding him!

What do you think? Do you think he is still to young?

I perosnally think he is too young too start on baby rice.Baby rice is very filling and may fall heavy on his stomach.

Have you tried milk for the next age group (3 to 6 months)up or just keep uping his amount of milk he drinks too 8 oz.If he is still like this at 4 months then start him on baby rice.

I have never used formula, but I know that a similar problem occurs with moms who do nurse. My baby can't get enough. MOst likely he is eating how much he needs without the cereal. He may be just trying to quench his desire to suckle. When on mom he can control the flo of milk to where he gets none and just sucks for the fun of sucking. But with a bottle he gets more and more milk. I would try a pzcifier. personally

It is not ussually advised to start weaning until 4months at least and longer if breast feeding. I would say certainly don't put rice in the bootle..Is you baby feeding 3 hrly at night aswell?

Yes throughout the night aswell, i am keeping my fingers crossed though as the last couple of nights he has slept through, he has his last feed between 10-12 and wakes any time between 5-6am so not too bad now!

He hasnt been too bad this last week, he has been sleeping through the night which has been great so i think i will leave it another month, unless he starts waking up throughout the night again. I have been speaking to sevral people and alot of people started their baby on baby rice from about 12 weeks so i will see what happens!

Hope all is still going well fo ryou. My dd is 17 months old and still doesn't sleep through thr night and believe me the kid can put away the food lol. So solids don't have much to do with sleeping, they say children will sleep through the night when that part of their brains are developed.

Hope all is going well.
Just wanted to say I know how you feel.

I breast fed my little boy to start with but he was always so hungry from about 8 weeks I started giving him the occasional formula which seemed to fill him a bit more.
By 13 weeks he was fully formula fed but starting to get hungry again. In the space of a week he went from 6oz every 3 1/2 hrs to 8oz every 2 1/2 hours. I was desperate to start him on baby rice but on the advise of the health visitor I percivered till 16 weeks.

It made all the differance but i'm happy i listened to the hv as he did get some tummy pains to start with and I just think if i'd started any earlier it might have been worse for him.

Hang in there it will get better. :-)

I started my son on rice cereal at 2 months old, the dr told me i could if he was still acting hungry after his bottle. So he got a bit less than 1 tbs of cereal every night.

My daughter didn't eat cereal until she was 4 months, wasn't ready yet so i waited & tried her on it at 5 months and shes been eating ever since/
